Ohio is a grand state for motorcycle riding. The expanse of roads passing through farms and small towns captures a timeless space of Americana. It's a pleasure to get lost among winding roads and meet some the friendly people the state has to offer.
That said, if a resident of Ohio purchases a motorcycle, they are required to carry minimum insurance. Some motorcycle owners buy a bike thinking that their auto insurance will protect them and satisfy the legal requirements. This is not true. In this state, motorcycle owners are required to carry specific motorcycle insurance that has certain minimum requirements.
State requirements for insurance are protection of $25,000 for bodily injury, $50,000 protection for each accident and $25,000 protection for property damage.
If a rider chooses to operate a motorcycle without insurance, the state has stiff fines awaiting them and on the first offense, a rider will experience suspension of their license until all requirements are met. On the second offense, a license is suspended for a full year. Subsequent offense gets the rider a two-year suspension.
At Bazemore-Abner Insurance Group we seek to help our customers get the motorcycle insurance that is right for them. Whether a rider needs minimum insurance or has assets that require higher dollar value protection, we will make sure that they get quality insurance.
Some additional protections exist that certain riders may want to take advantage of. This includes collision coverage that pays for repairs and/or replacement. Comprehensive coverage that pays for other types of accidents that may befall a bike, such as fire, theft, or vandalism. Medpay is an option for riders in the state that covers medical bills up to a certain dollar amount no matter who is at fault. This coverage extends to passengers too.
